~~~~~~~ WORKS IN PROGRESS: SECOND EDITION OF
  CHRONOLOGIUM ACADEMICUS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CHRONOLOGIUM ACADEMICUS
CHRONOLOGIUM ACADEMICUS IS TO ACADEMIA AND TIME,
WHAT A WORLD MAP IS TO GEOGRAPHY AND PLACE
(revised, updated poster edition)
Since the 1991 publication of the first edition of the Chronologium Academicus poster, the author has continuously kept the poster up-to-date for the eventual publication of a second edition, while he concurrently wrote Academia, discussed elsewhere.
At the time of the publication of the first edition of Chronologium Academicus, the largest available press was 54” x 77", which allowed for the inclusion of 700 portraits in the finished, trimmed, poster size of 53¼"H x 73¼"W. Since then, an 81” large-format litho press, the Rapida 205, has been developed measuring 59½” x 81”, at least four of which are in operation in the eastern US and Canada. Though it only adds 5½” in height and 4” in width to the dimensions of the first edition, by keeping everything else the same size, printing a second edition of Chronologium Academicus on a Rapida 205 will allow for a 40% increase in portraits from 700 to 1,176. That extra portrait capacity will further enrich the poster’s presentation by the inclusion of 476 additional portraits of the most noted individuals in history and academia that could not be accommodated in the first edition.
